Inside the Global Contemporary Art World
Today’s contemporary art world can be complicated to understand. In an age of global communication, where art works are breaking records at auction and artists act more like celebrities than bohemian rebels, we no longer see the art world as an autonomous body working within a small community. It has become a combination of multiple worlds which interact and overlap in a complex fashion. The art world is a network of dependencies between a set of players, whose influence changes over time.
On this course you will look into the contributing factors affecting these changes and the shape in which the global contemporary art world is evolving.
Including exclusive interviews with: Jacob El Hanani, Jared Madere, Michael Findlay, David Lewis, Marc Porter, David Kleiweg De Zwaan, David Chau, Thomas Kaplan, Touria El Glaoui and Katelijne De Backer.
What you will learn:
- You will have gained an in-depth understanding of the global contemporary art world.
- You will be able to identify the various players with an understanding of their individual role and their interactions among one another: artists, private dealers, galleries, collectors, auction
houses, art fairs, biennials, and museums.
- You will have gained an understanding of the various types of collectors participating in the art market.
- You will have acquired the knowledge to participate in the global art market.
